Hebrew – When to Say What: how to avoid common mistakes

Hebrew - When to Say What: how to avoid common mistakes (Hebrew Edition)Hebrew, When to Say What? How to Avoid Common Mistakes was born after having received repeated questions such as “What’s the difference between this and that? When do I say ‘this word’ and when ‘that word’? Why this word and not the other?”

This book answers these questions for the beginner and intermediate level and even for the advanced Hebrew students. Neither dictionaries nor Internet translators can teach you what you will find in this book as these particular entries, require thorough and yet simple explanations with examples of how and when to use them.

The book is as unique and valuable as a book can get! It is like a mini Hebrew thesaurus. The gems in this book will get you into the mindset, culture, nuances, and flavor of Modern Hebrew and it will keep you out of the most common traps. Hebrew, When to Say What? contains over a hundred English entries that cannot be translated word for word into Hebrew; two hundred Hebrew words, expressions, phrases, slang, and idioms; illustrations and exercises. This book gives you only the common usages of each entry and not ALL of them, as it is intended specifically for the beginner/intermediate level.

I made sure I use simple and basic vocabulary and syntax to not overburden or overwhelm you with new and unnecessary materials while the purpose is to give you just those words, phrases, and idioms that are unique to Hebrew and that cannot be literally translated into English. Moreover, I wanted to make this book accessible to as many levels as possible. For your convenience and to avoid reading words that you may not know, I translated every sentence and included the Hebrew vowels – n’koo-dote (nee-kood). The Hebrew sentences are mostly in the present tense. The entries are in alphabetical order. I added exercises to individual entries that called for it.

I have no doubt that you will love this one-of-a-kind book!

Speak Hebrew For Real: Advanced I

Speak Hebrew For Real, Advanced I will take you to the next level of conversational Hebrew in a smooth and gradual way. If you already know the past tense and the present tense and you are ready to embark on the FUTURE tense, this book is for you as it mainly concentrates on verbs in the future tense.

The method in which the grammar structures (binyanim), the regular and irregular roots are introduced has been tested to be the best and easiest approach so that the transition from present and past tense to the future tense is logical, easy to remember and apply and on top of it, it is really fun!

The book starts with reviewing the positive command (imperative) tense and the negative command tense; the future tense of all active binyanim (grammar structures), and all major regulars and irregular roots except for regular Pa’al (as it is the most complex structure in the future tense); expansion on telling time; prepositions joining pronouns. Many expressions, idioms, and slang that require more than just a straight translation are strewn all throughout this book.

Speak Hebrew For Real Advanced I contains many wonderful short stories and dialogues. Similar to the previous levels of Speak Hebrew For Real, this Speak Hebrew For Real Advanced I is loaded with exercises and answers.

All instructions are in Hebrew, so it is a great opportunity to learn new words and get used to some Pa’al verbs in the future tense. (I’m planting the seeds here for the next coming book).

Speak Hebrew For Real: Advanced II

With this level, all future tenses in all Binyanim have been covered thoroughly. This book contains over 560 new words, among them 70 adjectives, 40 slang words, 47 expressions, and 100 new verbs. Since you are now at the advanced level, I took the liberty to introduce many more new words as compared to previous books. Special attention is given to syntax, phrases, and idioms that require more than just a simple translation.
As with previous levels, the book contains ample exercises and answers to the exercises. You’ll find many wonderful short stories and dialogues. The book contains Hebrew-English and English-Hebrew Word lists.
My purpose is to teach you the language that most Israelis use in their day-to-day lives. Don’t get discouraged when you run across stories with words you don’t know. I’ve given you the basic foundation of the language on which you can build a very strong house.
Being in Advanced II does not mean you have almost reached the top. It is at a level where you could communicate like the average Israeli speaker. There’s one more level to this series that concentrates on important syntaxes such as subjunctives, copula, verbal nouns/gerunds, and many basic phrases, idioms, and slang. Knowing well what I have taught you in this series, you’ll be very comfortable, certain, and excited to reach higher levels.
